The Southern African Development Community (SADC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation of the Republic of Zambia, and with the support from the German government through the SADC GIZ Transboundary Water Management (TWM) project and the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), will host the SADC Resource Mobilisation and Transboundary Water Investment Workshop in Lusaka, Zambia from 24 to 25 July 2025.

60 people joined the discussions about Hydrology, Water Management, Climatology, Meteorology as well as Air Quality.

Project implementers went out into the field to identify sites for installing water level sensors in the commune of Koula, in the Koulikoro region.

The Pungwe River basin, shared by Zimbabwe and Mozambique, is rich in plant and animal diversity. However, the ecosystem is now under threat from human activities. In 2023, Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) commissioned an Environmental Flow (EFlows) assessment to understand how the Pungwe River Basin and its ecosystems work, the findings of which will help in managing the river and protecting its natural environment.

On Wednesday 4 October 2023, GWP and IW:Learn hosted an online session on multi-stakeholder regional dialogues, focusing on the critical enabling factors that contribute to their success, and how they positively impact transboundary water cooperation.

The 23rd WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium will be held at Sun City Conference Centre, in the North West province, South Africa and online on 19 – 21 October 2022, under the theme, “Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development in East and Southern Africa”.

For the Kingdom of Eswatini, these challenges are not just theoretical but a lived reality. Erratic rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and recurrent floods pose significant threats to water security and sustainable development. In response, Eswatini is actively implementing initiatives to strengthen climate resilience in its water sector.
