Regional Validation Workshop on the Inventory of Data, Models and Information Systems"

The regional workshop on the adoption of the inventory of the types of scientific / technical data to be retained in the Mékrou Project was held in Cotonou from 5 to 7 November 2014. It brought together about thirty participants from the three countries covered by the project (Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger) and partner organizations (GWP, JRC, NBA, etc.).

WACDEP Partners Share Experiences in Workshop

The 5th WACDEP Technical Coordination Workshop took place in Kigali, Rwanda, 23-28 September. The main purpose was to share experiences and discuss the coordination of implementing WACDEP in the participating GWP regions and countries. WACDEP is a joint AMCOW-GWP programme on water, climate, and development.

India: Social side-effects of the Upper Veda Dam Project (#308)

The Upper Veda Project involves a dam that would submerge 14 villages. Opposing the project, the affected communities took action and urged for alternative solutions. The dam was eventually constructed, but the process was characterised by conflicts between the project authorities and the communities. This case illustrates that dam projects, which directly affect the livelihoods of large numbers of people, need to have developed a well defined rehabilitation plan prior to construction.

Mali: Capitalizing on the process of elaboration of the Action Plan for IWRM (#345)

Encouraged by regional developments, Mali initiated the process to implement IWRM. This was done in three stages: 1) a project team and a Steering Committee were set up to define the management and steering framework of the project, 2) a situation analysis was developed and discussed with broad stakeholder groups and 3) a provisional Action Plan was prepared. This case study illustrates the key moments and events of the process of elaboration of the IWRM.

GWP-C Spearheads the Launch of New Tools and Resources for the Caribbean Water Sector

As part of the two-day Meeting of Regional Partners in Water and Wastewater, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C), the United Nations Environment Programme, Caribbean Regional Coordinating Unit (UNEP-CAR/RCU) and the Global Environment Facility’s Caribbean Regional Fund for Wastewater Management (GEF CReW) partnered to host a special Knowledge Sharing Session on New Tools and Resources for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Caribbean.
