In October 2009 Central Africa adopted a Regional Water Policy. Within the Secretariat of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) a unit responsible for coordinating the management of water resources was created.
Government Ministers with responsibility for water in the Caribbean are scheduled to meet at the 7th Annual High Level Session (HLS) Ministerial Forum on October 6th and 7th, 2011 in Guadeloupe. The HLS is convened annually by the Global Water Partnership Caribbean in collaboration with the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA).
Water quality is a major issue in Sri Lanka. Pollution and waste dumping contaminate water supplies, leading to serious health impacts for nearby water users. In one of the country’s most serious cases of water pollution, 300,000 people in Gampula were at risk when an epidemic of viral hepatitis broke out; several people died. GWP Southern Africa has participated in national and international dialogues focusing on water in the post 2015 development agenda. The dialogues form part of the UN national dialogue (post Rio +20) process which will feed into the development of the UN post 2015 Sustainable Development Goal(s).

Representatives from government ministries, non-governmental organanisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) all convened on February 15th, 2012 for the 8th Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Stakeholder Meeting put on by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and the Water Resources Agency (WRA) of Trinidad and Tobago.
A project focusing on safe water and sanitation in the Republic of Moldova won Category 2 of the Award.
