The Global Water Partnership (GWP) has published a new Technical Focus Paper (TFP) entitled "Integrated Water Resources Management in the Caribbean: The Challenges facing Small Island Developing States."

China: Drying Up; What to do about droughts in the People's Republic of China (#419)

Guizhou already experiences the effects of climate change, including droughts. Action was taken with the approval of a new policy document which provides funds supporting water quality improvements, water and soil conservation, ecosystem rehabilitation, irrigation, and managing increasing demand. Steps have also been taken for preventive actions for subsequent droughts. The most important lesson that can be learnt is that the greatest challenge to building resilience to droughts is institutional.

Venezuela: Integrated watershed management in Carabobo State (#426)

In Carabobo State, the urban and agricultural expansions are the main causes of watershed problems resulting from degradation of forests, deforestation and inadequate solid waste management. Since 2009, action has been taken to combat these developments through participatory public policies which focus on environmental education and sustainable development. The key to the success of the project has been extensive capacity building in combination with concrete management tools.
