GWP Participates in Africa’s Preparations for COP 18

The second annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-II) is a key activity of the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) Programme which is organised jointly by the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). It provides a forum for dialogue and engagement with various stakeholders involved in climate and development in Africa.

Guatemala: Towards IWRM in the Basin of Lake Atitlán (#9)

The Lake Atitlán basin experiences serious problems of water pollution, soil erosion and forest and biodiversity losses. Action was taken to establish the Authority for the Sustainable Management of the Atitlán Basin. However, barriers such as lack of public participation, institutional coordination and investment funds have only ensured limited success. The key lesson learnt is that the main barriers to an integrated management of water resources in the basin are strongly interlinked.

Vietnam: Scaling up rural sanitation – political economy constraints and opportunities (#423)

Water Supply and Sanitation policy in Vietnam is regulated through policy and a regulatory framework. However, the rural sanitation sector have had limited success and management has failed to be scaled up. To address these issues the Problem-Driven Governance and Political Economy Analysis Good Practice Framework was used to analyse the poor performance. The most important lesson is that not all policies are appropriate for scaling up.

Rwanda-Burundi Communication and Journalism Practitioners Training

GWP Eastern Africa organized a Water and Climate Development (WACDEP) Training Workshop on August 21-22, 2013 in Bugesera District, Rwanda. The title of the workshop was “Role of Communication in Promoting Water Security and Climate Resilience.” The theme was grounded in the understanding that the success of WACDEP rests on how all stakeholders are informed, actively engaged and owning the processes: consultations, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. A total of 30 communications experts and journalists from Burundi and Rwanda attended the training.

Country Water Partnerships

GWP SAS currently represents six Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These Country Water Partnerships are independent and autonomous organisations brought together with the common objective of promoting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the region.
