GWP CEE was founded in 1998 to foster integrated water resources management (IWRM) which is defined as the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of vital environmental systems.

‘Closing the Knowledge Gap: Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Agriculture’ was the theme of an international seminar in Johannesburg, South Africa, November 22-26, 2010, which sought to discuss strategies for developing comprehensive information and knowledge support systems in integrated water management for productive agriculture in Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states.
March 8, 2011 - Rising food prices and alarm over climate change was the context for a workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 24-25, 2011. How water is managed is central to both issues.
Ambassadors from ten Asian Embassies in Stockholm visited the GWPO offices on 18 March at the invitation by the Executive Secretary, to talk about water and GWP’s work in their respective countries and regions.
On the fourth MyCWP Partners’ meeting on 7th May 2012 at the Corus Hotel, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, MyCWP re-introduced to the partners to what the GWP is, the
technical papers that are available and the GWP’s influence globally.
To Celebrate the World Water Day 2012, Indonesia Water Partnership in cooperation with other government and other stakeholders hosted a seminar on "Water resistance to National Food Security through National Reformation" in Jakarta on 19 April 2012 and joining the World Water Day highlight events with the Ministry of Public Works through the Directorate General of water resources (SDA) held in West Java province in Situ Cipule on May 12, 2012 with the theme "Water and Food Security".
The Water Resources Agency (WRA) of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) of Trinidad and Tobago hosted its first meeting of Quarry stakeholders at the Kapok Hotel in Trinidad on July 13th, 2011.
