Ouagadougou, 19 January 2009 – The Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP/WA) is organizing its 3rd General Assembly of its Partners on 27 and 28 January 2009 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and key donors such as the African Development Bank signed an agreement providing funds to translate the Regional Water Policy adopted by heads of state in October 2009 into action. The allocation of funding is a crucial step along the road to improving water management in the region.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) announced the appointment of Dr. Ania Grobicki as the GWP Executive Secretary, effective March 11, 2009
Dr. Ania Grobicki has been appointed as the Global Water Partnership’s Executive Secretary. Ania Grobicki is currently the Head of the Secretariat for the multi-stakeholder forum on strengthening research for health, development and equity worldwide which was established to prepare for the 2008 Global Ministerial Forum on Research for Health.
The position serves (i) the entire GWP network by developing and overseeing the organisation’s web presence to ensure that web technology enhances the GWP mission; and (ii) the GWP Secretariat by planning and implementing the use of information technology to improve efficiency, productivity, and knowledge management.
Dr. Letitia A. Obeng took over the reins as Chair of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) on 1st January 2008.
Given her strong background in water and development we asked her about GWP and its role in sustainable development.
Fifty water professionals attended a Capacity Building Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management on November 25-28, 2008 in Skhoder Lake, Albania. The focus was on the conditions in the transboundary Drin River Basin.
Acting Executive Secretary Martin Walshe, together with GWP Senior Adviser Khalid Mohtadullah and Du Zhenkun of GWP China, attended the International Symposium on the Three Gorges Project & Water Resources Development and Protection of the Yangtze River in Yichang City, 28-29 October.
