African SIDS Blue Economy Project Showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week in Addis Ababa

The African SIDS Blue Economy Project, a joint initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP, and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, under the leadership of the African Union Commission as the focal custodian of the project, was showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Africa Blue Economy Week took place from 23 to 25 September 2025.

The AIP-PIDA Water Investment Scorecard, endorsed to strengthen accountability and engagement with investors, has become a primary instrument to track progress and guide action.

In the arid landscapes of Djibouti, women have long carried the weight of their households; walking long distances to fetch water, managing domestic responsibilities, and sustaining livelihoods with limited resources. These burdens stretch women’s time, affect their wellbeing, restrict their opportunities for economic development, while exposing them to heightened risks of gender-based violence (GBV), especially during long, unsafe journeys in search of water or income.
