The International Conference on Simulation and Regulation of Water Cycle in River Basin was jointly held by GWP China, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Zhejiang University and State Key Laboratory of Basin Water Cycle Simulation and Regulation, on December 9 to 12, 2013 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

Regional Strategy for 2009-2013

According to the Johannesburg Declaration (2002), the ultimate goal of the activities of Central Asia and Caucasus Partnership Network is to support and assist the countries in implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles towards the World Summit on Sustainable Development and Millennium Development Goals. This process must be accompanied by public involvement in decision-making, support for the political will for cooperation between sectors and countries, initiating dialogue among all stakeholders and supporting practical activities locally implemented including capacity building.

The Bahamas: The IWRM Planning Process in the Bahamas (#414)

The water resources of The Bahamas are threatened by over-abstraction, misuse and pollution. In the past, water management in the Bahamas has been conducted through a single-sector approach. To address its issues, actions have been taken to move towards IWRM and a multi-sector approach. In particular, attention has been focused on improving stakeholder participation and advancing political commitment. Presently only being partially successful, IWRM implementation in Bahamas highlights that it is a long term process.

Mainstreaming Young Water Professionals in GWP SA Work Programme

The GWP SA Young Professional Development Programme is part of GWPs role in integrating youth in its strategy. As part of GWP SA’s commitment, three young water professionals were recruited between the months of July – August 2014. This effort comes in support of the GWP strategy that aims to increase the involvement of young people as essential partners in GWP’s network to strengthen their awareness and develop their skills in working towards a sustainable future in fields related to water management and development.
