The Water, Climate Development (WACDEP) Coordination Workshop that was taking place in Kigali, Rwanda from (23-28 September) concluded with a call to fast-track the implementation of the program and linking it with GWP strategy.

The work forms part of the Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector Project that was officially launched in May 2013 (28-29 May, Barcelona) and is jointly implemented by OECD and GWP-Med.

The complex river basin system of the Nile basin is one of the most important ecosystems in Africa, hosting around 40% of the population. The nine countries of the Nile river basin share not only the world’s longest river, but also the challenges arising from climate change, such as land degradation, floods, reduced river flow, and droughts.
Kenya organized the national consultations on water for the post-2015 development agenda at the Kenya Institute of Water in Nairobi on 14 March 2014. More than 30 participants from cross sectoral organizations attended the meeting, which was supported by GWP Eastern Africa.
