To a large extent, the global climate crisis is a global water crisis. Yet the latest iteration of the negotiating text on adaptation, the so-called Non-Paper 31, has deleted any clear references to water and its management as a vital consideration for climate change adaptation. This is despite increasing mobilisation by the water community to call for a strong outcome on water from Copenhagen.

With the support of Hohai University, one of partners of GWP China, the third IWRM Training Course of Hohai University was taken place in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, 27-28 October, 2009.

GWP China Shaanxi, jointly with Drinking Water Safety Center of MWR, Shaanxi CHES, WWF Beijing Office, and with support of Shaanxi People’s Congress General Office, Shaanxi Provincial Water Resources Department, Hanzhong City Government, held “Post-quake Water Facilities Reconstruction Session” on November 11 to 13, 2009 in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province.

In order to enhance countermeasures for extraordinary typhoon or rainstorms attributed to extreme climate in Fujian Province, GWP China Fujian, together with Fujian Provincial Department of Water Resources, Fujian Provincial CHES Disaster Control Committee, held Workshop on Countermeasures for Extreme Climatic Events in Coastal Areas on December 16, 2009 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province.

This brief addresses the contributions of water to various sectors of economic and social life and, subsequently, to broad development goals. It aims to further the recognition of these contributions and the inclusion of water practitioners in development planning processes, so that water can prioritised adequately. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management. They are written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

GWP was founded in 1996 to foster integrated water resources management (IWRM), defined as a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.

In 2008, the Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) began working with the Water Integrity Network (WIN) to fight corruption surrounding illicit and unregulated river sand mining.

The Technical Advisory committee, the GWP-Cmr and the GWP-CAfTAC secretariats had a meeting on the 27th and 28th of September in Limbe (Cameroon). The main objective was to plan and prepare the launching of GWP-Central Africa (GWP-CAf). The event shall take place on the 29th of November 2008. Inputs were also made on the draft of the 2009-2013 regional strategy.

Le Comité technique Consultatif du GWP pour l’Afrique centrale s’est réuni les 27 et 28 septembre à Limbe (Cameroun) dans le but de préparer et organiser le lancement du Partenariat régional de l’eau pour l’Afrique Centrale (GWP-CAf). Il a été décidé que cet évènement se ferait le 29 novembre 2008. Cette réunion a également été l’occasion pour les participants de procéder à la relecture pour actualisation de certains documents de travail. A titre d’exemple le draft de la stratégie régionale 2009-2013 a été étoffé.
