When it comes to transboundary cooperation, policy evaluations often focus on whether cooperation exists or not, regardless of the output. This paper explores different kinds of cooperation, as well as prerequisites and suggestions for effective cooperation with measurable benefits.This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

Today, China is facing a great challenge as water resources begin to constrain the nation’s economic and social development. This paper describes the key water challenges and the steps being taken to address them – the so-called "three red lines", which set limits on water use, efficiency and water pollution. The International Land Coalition (ILC), Global Water Partnership (GWP) and International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has brought together land and water professionals, researchers and policy makers to reflect on the linkages between water and land in the emerging geopolitics of food, and to discuss cases from global, regional, basin, national or local levels, where these linkages were successfully addressed in legal frameworks, policy, and/or practice. The workshop is being held in Pretoria from 15 – 16 June 2015.

 

More than 80 Members of Parliaments (MPs), journalists, country administrators, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, and private partners from 16 countries contributed to a regional workshop dedicated to climate change adaptation in coastal areas of the Mediterranean (5-6 November 2015, Athens).

It highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourages the improved stewardship of rivers around the world. Rivers in virtually every country face an array of threats, and only through our active involvement can we ensure their health in the years ahead.

The Five Year (2014-2018) Strategic Plan for Burundi Water Partnership was presented to development partners on 25 September, 2014 in Bujumbura. The conference that was opened by the Assistant to the Minister in charge of water (MEEATU) aimed to create a platform to raise funds for the implementation of activities contained in the different project proposals of the strategic plan for water resource management and climate resilience.

The WFES Expo hosts over 850 exhibiting companies from more than 40 countries. It is held 14-17 January 2019 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The CWP Ivory Coast met on August 12 the new Water Resources Director to exchange on opportunities for enhancing collaboration between the two.
The Director hoped that the CWP can support his directorate in raising awareness and informing the population on some basic documents adopted and not well known. These include water policy documents, decrees of the water code, mobilization strategies on the IWRM PLAN financing, the operationalization of PLANGIRE through projects, waste of water. Complementarity of actions of the two structures was noted by the interlocutors.

Over the years, the people of Seychelles have had an increased access to an improved drinking water source. Statistics show that access to water stood at 88.9% in 1990 and at 97 percent in 2010 respectively. Similarly, indicators of access to improved sanitation show an increase from 78% in 1994 to over 97% in 2012.
