International Conference on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Food and Environmental Security organised by SEARCA (APAN Thematic Node on Agriculture)

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), together with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), is pleased to announce an extension of the call for abstracts for the International Conference on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Food and Environmental Security. The new deadline for submission of abstracts will be 16 September 2012. The conference will be held on 21-22 November 2012 at SEARCA, College, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines with a one-day field trip within the Southern Tagalog Region on 23 November 2012.

Myanmar: Water licensing & strengthening of water user groups (#310)

To increase agricultural productivity, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has encouraged many farmers to organise water users groups. Yields are to be increased through the collaborative and efficient participation of beneficiary farmers engaged in irrigation. This has led to efficient water distribution throughout the managed watercourse. The most important lesson learnt is the importance of the strengthening of each water user group.

African Development Bank highlighted success of IWRM planning in Burundi

The Africa Water Facility review mission to Burundi has concluded that the IWRM planning process has achieved its purpose and has recommended financial support to implement the plan. The mission also decided to use its experience in Burundi as a building block for other countries in Eastern Africa and transboundary water management.

GWP at Rio+20: High-Level Dialogue on Water

GWP Executive Secretary Dr Ania Grobicki was invited by the Brazilian government to speak at the Water Dialogue Panel which was broadcasted live on 19 June 2012. Ten recommendations were discussed by the panel and they will be transmitted directly to the roundtables of Heads of State and Government.

Grenadian Students Learn the Value of Water at Camp

In an effort to engage the youth and help them understand the value of access to potable water, the Grenada Community Development Agency (GRENCODA) held a four-day Student Assistance Programme (SAP) Camp for students between the ages of 12-16 years under the theme “Water a Critical Development Resource, Seriously Challenged.”
