CANCUN. Over the weekend, six countries from around the world at COP16, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, called for water to be put on the climate agenda. The countries highlighted the fact that climate change stands to have a significant impact on water resources, and stressed the need for further discussions on how this issue can be addressed within the climate framework.

The Water and Environment Team of the Sustainable Development and Productivity Division at ESCWA, in collaboration with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ), the Ministry of Regional Municipalities, Environment & Water Resources in Oman are organizing an Expert Group Meeting (18-20 March, Muscat) with the support of the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) and the United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP – ROWA).
10-11 December 2007, Bled Slovenia
The Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European Countries that was held in Bled, Slovenia, on 10-11 December 2007, is the fourth such meeting in sequence.
AMCOW and GWP continued to advocate for water in the climate change negotations at the COP17 in Durban 2-9 December 2011.
Conflicts over water resources exist in Vietnam as in many parts of the world where a large population have to share scarce water resources. To tackle these issues, GWP Vietnam organized a workshop on 29th November 2011, in Hanoi, to discuss solutions through and integrated approach to Food-Water-Energy Security.
The Purna Area Water Partnership was established in 1995 and has since carried out extensive work in water resources development and management in the Purna River Basin, India.
