Ukraine

Ukraine, situated by the Black Sea is bordering Belarus, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia. It is the second largest country in Europe, placed in the crossroads between Europe and Asia, giving it a very strategic position. The climate is temperate continental (although Mediterranean in the southern Crimean coast). The precipitation is disproportionally distributed being the highest in west and north; summers are warm across the country. Most of Ukraine consists of fertile plains and plateaus. In terms of natural resources, it is among other materials rich in iron ore, coal, manganese, natural gas and oil.

The Regional Steering Committee

The Regional Steering Committee is the decision-making body of GWPSA. It approves the annual work plan, monitors current on-going activities and provides guidance on all work areas, including the political aspects that water management may entail in the Southern African region.

High-level Forum on Urban Water Environment Building and Management

For the purpose of better building and management of urban water environment, the GWP China Hebei, jointly with Water Branch of Hebei Provincial Senior Scientists Association and Water Bureau of Shijiazhuang City of Hebei Province, organized “High-level Forum on Urban Water Environment Building and Management” on November 27- 28, 2011  in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province with over 80 participants .

Non Conventional Water Resources Programme in Malta (Alter Aqua)

The Maltese Islands have limited freshwater resources and depend heavily on desalination. Therefore there is an evident need to mobilise non conventional Water Resources (NCWR) in order to secure water availability and facilitate sustainable development.

ABOUT WACDEP

Water is central to Africa's development. To implement the climate change commitments in the Sharm el Sheikh Declaration and address the threat of climate change in Africa, the management of water resources must move to the top of the development agenda. This is the overall goal of the Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa, that runs from May 2011 to April 2016.

Roadmap for Water for Cambodia

In May, GWP Cambodia launched a report on river basin management in Asia together with the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, outlining results from a 4-year programme, including an investment roadmap for water and related development. The report, which will serve as a case study for the application of IWRM in Cambodia, is available in Khmer or English and can be ordered on the GWP Cambodia website.
