Media Release, March 8, 2011 -- Rising food prices and alarm over climate change was the context for a workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 24-25, 2011. How water is managed is central to both issues.

Within the framework of implementing the climate change related commitments of the Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration on Water and Sanitation, GWP and AMCOW are implementing the Water Climate Development programe (WACDEP). The WACDEP aims to support African countries develop No/low regrets Water Security and Climate Resilience Investment Strategies, Plans and projects, and promote the integration of water security and climate resilience into national development plans.

GWP CACENA as a regional action network, seeks to work in cooperation with many institutions both in the region and beyond that share our vision for a water secure world. That is why we have our allies among the regional, international and local organizations.

GWP China Yellow River, together with the Yellow River Research Institute, provided technical experts and speakers and organised the workshop, Efficient Use of Water Resources and Ecological Compensation, in September 2010 in Zhengzhou, Henan.

Meetings of local water partnerships in June 2010 gave community groups in 45 villages in the Ramial and Indrajeet basins opportunities to present on-the-ground water issues that concerned them to revenue, irrigation, and agriculture and fisheries officials.
