The 3rd Wei River Forum was taken place in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi Province, 18-19 October, 2009, hosted by GWP China Shaanxi, Shaanxi CHES, Shaanxi Environmental Prevention Scientific Association and Wei River Governance Administration with joint support of GWP, Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress, Provincial Water Sector, Environmental Prevention Sector, Soil and Water Conservancy Administration and Women’s Federation and etc.

GWP China Shaanxi, jointly with Drinking Water Safety Center of MWR, Shaanxi CHES, WWF Beijing Office, and with support of Shaanxi People’s Congress General Office, Shaanxi Provincial Water Resources Department, Hanzhong City Government, held “Post-quake Water Facilities Reconstruction Session” on November 11 to 13, 2009 in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province.

GWP Southern Africa (GWPSA) is one of 13 regional networks that make up GWP, an international network that was created in 1996 to foster implementation of integrated water resources management: the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources that maximises economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of ecosystems and the environment.

This brief addresses the contributions of water to various sectors of economic and social life and, subsequently, to broad development goals. It aims to further the recognition of these contributions and the inclusion of water practitioners in development planning processes, so that water can prioritised adequately. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management. They are written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

The GWP Technical Committee consists of internationally recognised professionals selected for their experience in different disciplines relating to integrated water resources management.

The Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa recently organised a workshop in Mombasa with a team of environmental experts and civil society members from the region to develop climate change adaptation strategies.

GWP Eastern Africa (GWP-EA), in collaboration with AMCOW and with funding from the AfDB, ran a survey of 12 countries to assess the state of IWRM planning and implementation.
