Economic Model for the Aral Sea

A USAID project to develop a regional economic model for the integrated use of Aral Sea basin water resources was granted to a consortium of DHI, COWI and GWP Central Asia and Caucasus (GWP CACENA), with GWP CACENA being asked to coordinate the project. A working meeting was held on 7-9 December 2011 to elaborate specific assignments for national experts from five countries.

Central Africa report

The Technical Advisory committee, the GWP-Cmr and the GWP-CAfTAC secretariats had a meeting on the 27th and 28th of September in Limbe (Cameroon). The main objective was to plan and prepare the launching of GWP-Central Africa (GWP-CAf). The event shall take place on the 29th of November 2008. Inputs were also made on the draft of the 2009-2013 regional strategy.

Le Comité technique Consultatif du GWP pour l’Afrique centrale s’est réuni les 27 et 28 septembre à Limbe (Cameroun) dans le but de préparer et organiser le lancement du Partenariat régional de l’eau pour l’Afrique Centrale (GWP-CAf). Il a été décidé que cet évènement se ferait le 29 novembre 2008. Cette réunion a également été l’occasion pour les participants de procéder à la relecture pour actualisation de certains documents de travail. A titre d’exemple le draft de la stratégie régionale 2009-2013 a été étoffé.

Sand Mining in Bangladesh Requires Integrated Approach

A Seminar on the “Importance of Integrated Management in Mining Sand from the Riverbeds of Bangladesh” was conducted by SOUL (Save Our Urban Life) on August 24, 2011, with financial assistance from GWP Bangladesh.

New project in Sustainable Water Integrated Management

GWP Mediterranean is a Consortium Member and the Technical Director of the regional technical assistance project Sustainable Water Integrated Management – Support Mechanism (SWIM-SM) that was launched by the European Commission in December 2010 to promote the extensive dissemination of sustainable water management policies and practices in the Mediterranean. SWIM-SM Partner countries are Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the occupied Palestinian territory, Syria and Tunisia. As a Technical Director, GWP Mediterranean oversees all activities and contributes technically to the implementation of the project.

Asian Ambassadors visit GWP Secretariat

Ambassadors from ten Asian Embassies in Stockholm visited the GWPO offices on 18 March at the invitation by the Executive Secretary, to talk about water and GWP’s work in their respective countries and regions.
