Coordination and Facilitation (B3)

Coordination and facilitation bodies (CFBs) and instruments play the very important role of articulating and harmonizing the actions and visions of the numerous entities concerned with water management. Whether it is at the international, national, or even regional level, mediators are always needed in dealing with water related issues. Tools under this section can be seen as tying strings for an IWRM strategy and for good water governance to crystalize.

Bulgaria: Creating a watershed council along Varbitsa river (#142)

In preparation for the new Water Law in Bulgaria, as well as the EU Water Framework Directive, the watershed council was set up as a pilot to test on-site effective and participatory approaches to river resource management in the Varbitsa River. The key lesson drawn is that participatory, open, citizen-friendly and bottom-up approaches are more efficient than top-down administrative approaches.

Protection and Sustainable Use of the Dinaric Karst Aquifer System (DIKTAS)

The DIKTAS Project (2010 - 2015) was a collaborative effort to improve knowledge and attract the international community’s attention on the widespread, yet vulnerable and poorly understood karst aquifers in the Dinaric Region; it was also an effort to enhance coordination among countries, agencies and other stakeholders towards an equitable, sustainable, integrated management of the Dinaric Karst Aquifer System’s transboundary water resources and the protection of the unique dependent ecosystems from natural and man-made hazards including climate change.

2014 GWP-University of Dundee International Water Law Scholarship Programme

As capacity-building support to its Partner organizations, GWP, together with the University of Dundee will offer scholar-ships for 30 participants to undertake a module in International Water Law, in Dundee 9-20 June 2014.

 

Applications will be accepted from 20 November 2013 to 15 February 2014.
