West Africa has ten aquifers and some countries have no other alternative water resources than groundwater.
The National Water Law, approved in 2009 (see GWP in Action 2009 Annual Report, p. 24), aims to establish a national framework for water management and stipulates the establishment of watershed councils to improve water governance through stakeholder participation.
GWP Slovakia organised a consulting meeting on 17 February in Bratislava.

In order to assess how the new Indonesian water resources law adopts IWRM principles, it has been analysed according to the GWP ToolBox IWRM elements.
At a regional workshop on financing the water sector in Central Africa, participants expressed the urgent need for investments in basin, national and regional organizations. In addition, participants validated the proposed regional strategy for financing the water sector and its mechanism as proposed by GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf). One participant called the strategy “relevant, consistent and forward looking.”
Highlighting the Role of Water in Climate Change Adaptation
December 1st, 2010. Cancun, Mexico. This morning the Dialogs for Water and Climate Change were inaugurated in Cancun, Mexico, by a high panel of representatives, among them Dr. Letitia A. Obeng, Chair of GWP.
GWP Caribbean and Caribbean WaterNet in collaboration with the Government of Grenada, the National Water and Sewerage Authority (NAWASA) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), held a three-day workshop in Grenada on ‘Hydro-Climatic Hazards in Water Resources Management’, May 16-18, 2011.
