Sudan, situated by the Red Sea is bordered by Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya and South Sudan. The final alignment between Sudan and South Sudan is still under pending negotiations and demarcation. The Nile and its tributaries are cutting through the country. Despite the presence of the Nile, the climate is arid desert; hot and dry. In terms of natural resources, Sudan has deposits of petroleum as well as small reserves of iron ore, copper and chromium ore.

The Capacity Building Workshop on “Integrated Water Resources Management, with particular reference to the conditions in the extended Drin River Basin” was co-organised in Skhodra, Albania, 25-27 November 2008by the Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med), the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and the GEF “Lake Shkoder/Skadar Integrated Ecosystem Management” Project.

Lithuania has an estimated population of 3.2 million as of 2011, and its capital and largest city is Vilnius.

Historical background

Investing in water management contributes to poverty reduction, climate resilience and sustainable development. However, water investments are spread across many institutions and at different levels of government. This briefing note lays out different aspects of water investments. Briefing notes are two-page summaries on selected topics. They are prepared by GWP’s Global Secretariat and its partners.

Recently, Chile's General Directorate of Water (DGA) has showed a keen interest in ensuring an integrated approach to water management, reflected in its 2005 document IWRM and Several Experiences of Organisations of Water Users and the most recent 2011 report: Chile – Diagnosis of Water Resources Management.

As part of its long-term commitment to contribute to the building of confidence and cooperation between countries that make up the Himalayan river basins, GWP Nepal participated in a workshop on the Himalayan Sub-Regional Cooperation for Water Security.
