Under the guidance of GWP Pakistan, the local water Partnership for the Nara canal in the lower Indus Basin launched a participatory programme to reduce poverty and improve agricultural productivity. This canal, the largest in Pakistan, irrigates 2 million acres (809,371 hectares) of land.
GWP Pakistan collaborated on a National Workshop on Pakistan’s Preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Islamabad on 12-13 September 2011. GWP Pakistan held a side event to promote IWRM and water saving/recycling and environmental conservation measures at ground level. The workshop was organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute, UN One and the Rio+20 Secretariat.
GWP Patron Margaret Catley-Carlson delivered the keynote speech at this year's Asia Development Bank’s (ADB) water conference held October 11-15, 2010 in Manila, Philippines. Her focus was on “cutting through red tape in order to achieve better water security.” The GWP delegation participated in a variety of sessions and gave presentations.
In 2000, GWP developed the IWRM ToolBox. Broadly defined, the ToolBox consists of a wide range of materials such as case studies and reference documents dealing with water resource management.
GWP Senior Network Officer Angela Klauschen is one of the panelists in the opening session of the Greening the Islands conference in Italy on 30-31 October. The theme of the conference is "Integrated Sustainability: Energy & Water for Islands and Remote Locations".
GWP China participated in GWP Regional Days and CP Meeting from August 15-19,2011 in Stocholm. Ms Ma Yilin and Prof. Jia Yangwen also participated in some activities of the 21th World Water Week.
Regional Nile Day celebrations in 2012 will be held on the 19th and 20th of February this year. National celebrations will happen at the same time. The theme will be ‘Water, Energy, Food: Importance of Nile Cooperation’.
