Colombo, May 2023: Sri Lanka’s premier apparel solutions provider, Brandix Apparel Limited (BAL), signed a partnership agreement with Global Water Partnership (GWP) recently to strengthen joint efforts to advance youth engagement with water and sustainability.
The Global Water Partnership’s (GWP) Sponsoring Partners have selected Mr. Pablo Bereciartua, President of the Argentinean Engineering Centre (Centro Argentino de Ingenieros – CAI), as Chair of GWP. The appointment is effective July 1, 2022. Bereciartua currently serves as a member of the GWP Steering Committee.
Engr. Quamrul Islam Siddique was a prominent alumnus of the Department of Civil Engineering who is a freedom fighter, leader and a modern architect of rural infrastructure development in Bangladesh. He played the leading role in establishing of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in its present form. He died of on 1 September 2008 at the age of 63.
Born in 1938, at age 84 Dr Motadullah is still fond of reminding the happy memories that he had with GWP as the first Executive Secretary and engaging in establishing Regional and Country Water Partnerships around the world during the inception of the network. Four co-chairs of the International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa; H.E Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal and Chair of the African Union, H.E Hage Geingob, President of Namibia, H.E Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands and H.E Jakaya Kikwete, Former President of the Republic of Tanzania have each received the Presidential Global Changemakers Award for demonstrating high level political commitment and leadership for climate resilient water security in Africa.
GWP SAS, in collaboration with South Asia Rainwater Network (SARNET), Lanka Rainwater Harvesting Forum (LRWHF) and Women for Water Partnership (WfWP) jointly organised a webinar on Rainwater harvesting for disaster risk reduction in flood and drought crises on 3 August 2023. This is part of the “Signposts to Bali” initiative, a deliberation of WfWP for the preparation for the 10th World Water Forum.
Tanzania has launched response strategies that will support the country in resolving the country’s three major barriers to water resources management. Launched during the 2024 National Multi-Stakeholder Forum (NMSF) on 11th and 12th February, the strategies were developed under the Global Water Leadership Programme (GWL) which the Global Water Partnership Tanzania was implementing in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania. The GWL programme, a global initiative to support emerging leadership for improved water, sanitation and hygiene services, and climate resilience, is being implemented in various countries including Tanzania.
We now open the call for applicants for the 2023-2024 Youth for Water and Climate (YWC) Programme cohort. This call is open to applicants from the following countries: France, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and the Netherlands.
