GWP celebrates 25 years in 2021, and we are introducing the anniversary website gwp25years.org. The launch took place in connection to the GWP Regional Days (31 May-3 June), an annual gathering of GWP’s staff worldwide. CWP-Benin, in collaboration with GWP-WA and WACDEP-G implementing partners in Benin, intends to stimulate innovation for gender equality by supporting the accelerated design and implementation of projects and initiatives that enhance water security and climate resilience through a gender transformative approach. Sardar Muhammad Tariq, born on 15 May 1939, has over 53 years experience in planning, design,
tendering and construction management of water resources and hydropower development
projects Asia. He was a former Chairman of the South Asia Technical Advisory Committee (SASTAC) and the Regional Chair of Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) from 2010 to 2012. Time to time he held the position of Regional Council Member of GWP SAS representing Pakistan and currently holds the position of Executive Director/CEO of GWP Pakistan (Pakistan Water Partnership).
In an event on the margins of the World Leaders Summit at COP26, former Tanzanian leader and Chair of Global Water Partnership Southern Africa and Africa Coordination, H.E. President Jakaya Kikwete called on the international community to support the establishment of an International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, which is urgently needed to accelerate investments in water security on the continent.
The Burkina Faso project team carried out an exchange and experience sharing mission with that of Benin from 16 to 22 February 2020 in Cotonou and Natitingou (Benin). The TFTC project is active in Benin in reforestation, promotion of improved stoves and environmental education.
The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 was originally scheduled to take place in June 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was rescheduled and it is instead taking place this year on 3-11 September. It will be a hybrid in-person and virtual event, with the aim to drive action on nature-based recovery, climate change and biodiversity.
