The 11th SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue was held in Maseru, Lesotho, from 29 to 30 September 2025, where delegates discussed the role of water in regional economic corridor development, positioning and aligning the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus for impactful contribution to the regional economic development corridor agenda.
The 26th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium will take place on 29-31 October 2025, hosted in a hybrid format coordinated from Ciela Resort, Lusaka, Zambia. This year’s theme is “Accelerating Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management in order to Close the Water Investment Gap by 2030 and Beyond in Eastern and Southern Africa”.
On 7–8 October 2025, water professionals and practitioners gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a hands-on workshop aimed at strengthening national capacity in river water quality management. The two-day training was jointly organized by the Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP), the Global Water Partnership Malaysia (MyGWP), and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia, with implementation support from the MyGWP Secretariat, DID Malaysia, and a hired consultant and trainer.
From October 20 to 23, 2025, Guinea’s National Designated Authority (NDA), with technical support from GWP Africa, organized a capacity-building workshop focused on strategic engagement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the development of resilient and bankable project proposals.
First integrated training marks the official start of Montenegro’s Green Climate Fund Capacity Building Training Programme under the project “Building Technical and Institutional Capacity in the Water Sector in Montenegro to Facilitate Inclusive Climate Resilience Initiative” which will produce the country’s first Climate-Resilient Water Investment Plan.
On 22 August 2025, a groundbreaking pilot project was launched with the mission to accelerate the protection and restoration of freshwater ecosystems across Pakistan. Just days later, momentum continued in Islamabad with the first Country Stakeholder Workshop, held on 2 September.
The African SIDS Blue Economy Project, a joint initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP, and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, under the leadership of the African Union Commission as the focal custodian of the project, was showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Africa Blue Economy Week took place from 23 to 25 September 2025.
