Angola and Namibia have officially launched the technical process for developing a Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), Strategic Action Plan (SAP), and National Action Plans (NAP) for the Cuvelai and Kunene River Basins. The process is being undertaken under the "Enhanced Water Security and Community Resilience in the Adjacent Cuvelai and Kunene Transboundary River Basins (CUVKUN)" project, which is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the GEF Implementing Agency. The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is the Executing Agency, while the Cuvelai Commission (CUVECOM) and Kunene Permanent Joint Technical Committee (PJTC) are the focal custodians of the project implementation.

On 7–8 October 2025, water professionals and practitioners gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a hands-on workshop aimed at strengthening national capacity in river water quality management. The two-day training was jointly organized by the Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP), the Global Water Partnership Malaysia (MyGWP), and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia, with implementation support from the MyGWP Secretariat, DID Malaysia, and a hired consultant and trainer.
Tangible results concerning the significant reduction of water for irrigation, productivity increase, energy savings, along with the formulation of a shared vision and policy recommendations for future upscaling of the WEFE Nexus approach in Tunisia were the key highlights of the final Multistakeholder workshop of the ACCISI-GEM (Adapting to Climate Change Impacts through Smart Irrigation and WEFE Nexus Approach) project that took place on 26 February 2025 in Bizerte, Tunisia.
The importance of collaboration to tackle the impacts of climate change as well as the role of technology in optimising the use of natural resources was acknowledged by all during the 1st Multistakeholder Meeting of the ACCISI-GEM project implemented in the Governorate of Bizerte, by the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean in partnership with local and national authorities.
The UNDP-GEF Project “Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African Small Island Developing States (African SIDS), through the African Union Commission and GWPSA, participated in an IW: Learn Twinning Exchange organised as part of the Global Environment Facility International Waters (GEF IW): LEARN 5 initiatives to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between International Waters projects across regions. The exchange activities took place in Colombia and Belize from 27 October to 4 November 2025.
2025: The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will convene representatives from its Member States, River Basin Organizations (RBOs), Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs), development partners, civil society, International Cooperating Partners (ICPs), and financial institutions for the inaugural Transboundary Water and Landscapes Sustainable Finance Bootcamp.
On 22 August 2025, a groundbreaking pilot project was launched with the mission to accelerate the protection and restoration of freshwater ecosystems across Pakistan. Just days later, momentum continued in Islamabad with the first Country Stakeholder Workshop, held on 2 September.
