Bamako, December 16, 2025 – The conference hall of the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH) hosted today the official launch ceremony of the flood forecasting and early warning platform in the commune of Koula, along with the handover of technical equipment designed to strengthen local monitoring capacities.
From August 26 to 29, 2025, Bamako hosted a national strategic training workshop on climate finance and the preparation of bankable projects through the Green Climate Fund (GCF), as part of the project “Support for GCF Readiness of the African Union Commission's Multi-Country Program to Accelerate the Water Investment Program (AU AIP)”.
From November 4 to 6, 2025, Bamako hosted a pivotal regional workshop under the REWaRD project- “Reversing Ecosystem and Water Resources Degradation Trends in the Volta Basin.” Implemented by the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and the Global Water Partnership – West Africa (GWP-WA), with support from UNEP, IUCN, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project aims to strengthen ecological resilience and participatory governance across six West African countries.
The Global Water Partnership and the World Meteorological Organization on Thursday, 22 May 2025, hosted a High-Level Dialogue in the context of the G20 to serve as a foundational consultation toward the establishment of the Global Outlook Council on Water Investments. Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, which is the GWP Africa Hub, co-hosted the Dialogue.
Between December 2025 and January 2026, Global Water Partnership Hungary (GWP Hungary) actively contributed to national and international water governance processes, with a strong focus on youth engagement and regional cooperation in the Danube River Basin.

At the AU – AIP Africa Water Investment Summit 2025, held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 13 – 15 August 2025, H.E. Retno Marsudi, United Nations Special Envoy on Water, delivered a powerful address affirming her commitment to advancing Africa’s water agenda.
The GWP-WA Steering Committee met for its second session of 2024 and reviewed progress on the year's work plan, the work plan and budget for 2025, while discussing the financial and institutional challenges facing the GWP network.
