In order to carry out an in-depth consultation with the main stakeholders of Benin on the indicators of the water investment monitoring systems (AIP SCORECARD and WASSMO), for the purpose of validating the data collected under the 2021-2022 review, the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Programme (WACDEP G) implemented by the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP BENIN) in collaboration with the Benin Water Directorate, organised the workshop for the validation of Benin's data in the African Water Investment Scorecard (AIP Scorecard) and the setting up of the national data collection platform for the WASSMO system indicators, at the SOSSA Hotel in Cotonou (Benin).
Among the major advances in the implementation of IWRM and the national effort to finance the management and protection of water resources in Burkina Faso, we can cite the adoption and implementation of the Financial Contribution for Water (CFE). It is well known that one of the challenges in all developing countries is the mobilization of resources to finance the sustainable management of water resources. "This is why Burkina Faso has adopted the principles of environmental taxation of the country, which is called the CFE," explains Mr. Firmin W. OUEDRAOGO of SP / IWRM.
Water projects are six times more efficient when women are part of the team, and yet there are still massive gaps in employment of women within the water sector, particularly for jobs that are onsite or that require a strong science background. How can we help women colleagues join and stay in the water sector to ensure that water solutions are the best they can be and to help communities and the environment get the water they need to be resilient? The meeting was held to follow up the Innovative Solution for Water Security and Sustainable Development Webinar Series #4, featured Safe Water Gardens.
How well is the world managing its water resources? To answer that question, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the UNEP-DHI Centre and Global Water Partnership (GWP), have analysed the responses from 186 countries to the survey instrument on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 6.5.1 – the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) – showing that the world as a whole has advanced from 49% in 2017 to 54% in 2020. While this does show definite progress, 107 countries are currently not on track to meet the target of implementing IWRM by 2030, and to reach the global goal, the current rate of implementation would need to at least double.
To develop joint strategies geared toward promoting female engagement in decision-making in the water and climate sector, GWP Cameroon in collaboration with UN Women Cameroon and the Ministry in charge of promoting women and family (MINPROFF) organized a multi-stakeholder gender café in Yaoundé on August 17th, 2022.
