The overall objective of the Programme is to contribute to the integrated and sustainable economic development in the region, promoting water security as a strategic element for adaptation to climate variability and change, and reduction of the risk of related disasters.
This Programme fits within the context of three regional instruments developed by the Central American Integration System (SICA): the Regional Climate Change Strategy (ERCC), the Strategy and Plan for Integrated Water Resource Management in Central America (ECAGIRH), and the Central American Policy for Integrated Risk Management (PCGIR), as well as within the context of the political and regulatory framework at the national level.
The Programme will be implemented in six countries in the region: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
