Tackling Water Scarcity in Grenada using Artificial Intelligence: Introduction

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) embarked on an innovative Pilot project to tackle water scarcity in the agricultural sector. In response to Grenada’s most recent drought experienced this year, GWP-C sought to promote strategies to tackle water scarcity and implement procedures for water conservation. As such the organisation raised awareness on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Agriculture through the use of IRROGOPTIMAL technology.

GWP-SEA support the Safe Water Gardens to increase access to sanitation in Bintan Island – Indonesia

In December 2022, Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia utilized its e-survey platform for water and sanitation hygiene to assist Safe Water Gardens in increasing access to safe and proper sanitation at Busung Village, Bintan Regency. GWP-SEA’s regional coordinator, Fany Wedahuditama lead the training for the enumerators and supervisors on how to use the e-survey on their android phone.

International Law on Transboundary Groundwaters – a Complex Maze

Since the start of 2021, GWP and the International Water Law Academy (IWLA) of Wuhan University have co-organised a series of online events called "Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train" - a 'train' of events stopping around the world at different topics related to the main theme. On 15 June, the initial series concluded with its 6th session on international water law and transboundary groundwater. "We are in front of a puzzle, and this can get very frustrating – there are a lot of pieces, and it takes a lot of time,” said Dr. Francesco Sindico when he described what he called a complex maze of international law applicable to transboundary aquifers.

Zambia launches National Adaptation Plan in bid to build the country’s resilience to impacts of climate change

The Government of Zambia has launched its National Adaptation Plan (NAP), a long-term Strategic Plan formulated to address identified risks and vulnerabilities in various sectors to enhance Zambia's resilience to the impacts of climate change. The NAP was developed in partnership with GWP which provided technical and project management support and the Green Climate Fund funded the development process. The NAP, launched on Tuesday, 14 November in Lusaka.

Transboundary Cooperation Strengthened: Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique Sign Historic Agreement for Joint Management of Ruvuma River Basin

The governments of Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint management and development of the Ruvuma/Rovuma River Basin, a transboundary river basin traversing across the three SADC member states. Ministers of Water from the three member states; Hon. Abida Mia from Malawi, Hon. Carlos Alberto Fortes Mesquita from Mozambique, and Hon. Jumas Hamidu Aweso from Tanzania, signed the MoU on behalf of their countries.

Deadline Extended: CSSW 2023 Call for Papers

In March 2023, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) will host the 2nd Caribbean Science Symposium on Water. Its main theme will be "Conservation and Innovation: Changing the Regional Water Paradigm".
