GWP Patron Kader Asmal and former Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry in South Africa passed away on June 22, 2011, in Cape Town.

Workshop on Groundwater Development and Utilization in Jinghui Canal Irrigation Area was taken place in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. The workshop was sponsored by the GWP China Shaanxi, co-sponsored by Shaanxi Provincial Water Resources Department,Shaanxi Provincial Hydraulic Engineering Society and Shaanxi Provincial Irrigation Systems Association on June 22, 2011.

Roadmap for Water for Cambodia

In May, GWP Cambodia launched a report on river basin management in Asia together with the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, outlining results from a 4-year programme, including an investment roadmap for water and related development. The report, which will serve as a case study for the application of IWRM in Cambodia, is available in Khmer or English and can be ordered on the GWP Cambodia website.

In one of the country’s most serious cases of water pollution, 300,000 people in Gampula were at risk when an epidemic of viral hepatitis broke out; several people died.
