Lucka Bogataj Appointed New GWP Steering Committee Member

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Sponsoring Partners announced the appointment of Prof Lučka Bogataj among 5 new members for the GWP Steering Committee on 28 August.

GWP Central and Eastern Europe nominated Lučka Bogataj who is a Professor of Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Ljubljana.

She served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) which provided scientific information to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the group jointly received the Nobel Prize in 2007.

Currently, Prof. Bogataj is the project leader at Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana in EuroGEOSS, a large scale integrated project on drought in the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission. She is Board member of Global Climate Observation System (GCOS) at WMO acting as a link between GCOS and IPCC.

In accepting the position, Prof. Bogataj said, “As a climatologist, I am proud to be a part of the GWP that puts water and climate change adaptation high on the development agenda”.

Lučka Bogataj is the author and co-author of several publications. 

Martina Zupan, the GWP CEE Chair, said, “Prof. Bogataj brings to the GWP Steering Committee her international and specific regional expertise on climate change, water balance and drought to the benefit of the whole GWP network”.
