Hygiene promotion and environmental protection, Eau Vive trains women in Togo

Eau Vive Togo has trained women and local development committees on the promotion of good hygiene and sanitation practices and environmental protection from 26 to 28 February 2019 in Danyi-Apéyéme (Togo). The activity is carried out as part of its project to support young people in protecting the environment, water and soil (PAJPEES).

The local development actors were trained on community mobilization techniques and facilitation, awareness raising for behaviour change through PHAST tools and environmental protection. The objective of this activity is to strengthen the knowledge of the target group and provide them with proven practical concepts for IEC (Information-Education-Communication) actions at the grassroots level.

In a context of degradation of natural resources by human actions, there is a need to act, particularly in grassroots communities. They must be continuously informed and educated on good practices so that they can adopt them to improve their living conditions.

Participants were trained on the prerequisites for an awareness session, mobilization or facilitation techniques, and the qualities of a good facilitator. Concerning sensitization by PHAST tools, the emphasis was on the steps of the PHAST approach, the presentation and especially the manipulation of PHAST practical tools. Several exercises were carried out and the participants were put in a real situation through simulations of awareness sessions. For environmental protection, the training focused on the causes and consequences of vegetation and soil degradation before proposing good farming practices to mitigate these degradations.

PAJPEES is part of the #TonFuturTonClimat initiative implemented in Benin, Burkina-Faso and Togo with the financial support of the Government of Quebec and technical support from GWP-WA and the International Secretariat for Water (ISW).
