The Cuero River area is particularly susceptible to floods, making the communities living in the surrounding area vulnerable. This area was consequently chosen for implementation of an Early Warning System Project. Action was taken in three separate phases in three different areas. From the experience, the lesson learnt is that more effort should be devoted to training of a leader group that can promote and consolidate the system’s self-sufficiency.

Poor domestic and international coordination between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique has led to conflicts over the water utilisation of the Komati River basin. Despite these challenges, action has been taken to strengthen the institutional and legislative framework. These actions demonstrate that in the contexts involving transboundary water resources, a strong institutional framework can promote political and economic cooperation between riparian states.

Proceedings from regional workshop: Integrated drought management programme in Central and Eastern Europe

In partnership with the Council for Caribbean Science and Technology (CCST), Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) received a grant from the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund (PGTTF) to finance a Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) project for the Caribbean.

GWP-C in its continued efforts to support Caribbean countries in the sustainable management of their water resources has created a Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) model that can be adopted by water-scarce communities.

This paper explores the role that IWRM needs to play in climate change adaptation. It outlines the social, economic and environmental impacts of climate change; the challenges it poses for water resources management; the actions needed to address those challenges; and approaches to financing IWRM for climate change adaptation. This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

Water is the primary medium through which Climate Change will impact people, ecosystems and economies. This brief suggests that the IWRM approach provides the most adequate framework to manage these impacts. It addresses the most important challenges and explores different measures within the IWRM framework to meet them. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management.
