Africa Water and Sanitation Week

The 8th Africa Water Week (AWW8) and the 6th Africa Conference on Sanitation and Hygiene (AfricaSan6) are being jointly organised this year as a virtual conference on 22-26 November. Joined together as the Africa Water and Sanitation Week (AWSW), the conference is convened by the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) in conjunction with the African Union Commission and organised with other development partners.

Cairo Water Week 2021

Cairo Water Week (CWW) is an annual event organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with national, regional and international partners, including GWP Mediterranean. The 4th edition of CWW takes place on 24-28 October under the theme “Water, Population and Global Changes: Challenges and Opportunities”. The event will be arranged in a hybrid style, with some in person sessions in Cairo, Egypt, and some online.

Making Gender Part of the Development Sector

Sida, Sweden’s International Development Cooperation Agency, and one of GWP’s founding Partners, held its annual development forum on 14 October. This year, the event highlighted gender and the inequalities that still exist around the topic. This aligns with GWP’s Gender Strategy.

Unlocking Water Investments in Zambia

GWP Zambia was requested by the government to facilitate the development a national Integrated Water Resources Management/Water Efficiency (IWRM/WE) plan. GWP Zambia managed the multi-stakeholder consultations, led an awareness raising campaign, and initiated a capacity building programme – all of which resulted in buy-in from a range of actors.

Partnership for Water and Sanitation in Karachi

In the early 2000s it was clear to the citizens and municipality of the megacity of Karachi, Pakistan, that nothing short of stakeholder empowerment would be sufficient to overcome the urban water management problems facing the city.  The result was the GWP-supported Karachi Water Partnership, which has successfully served as a platform for collective action by citizens, government, and the private sector to better manage water resources.

Interactive Online Session: Indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters

The Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train continues its journey. The next online session is planned for 15th September 2022. The 12th online interactive session explores the ways how to better involve indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters and practical examples of the role of indigenous people in transboundary water management.

IWRM Process Results in New Water Law and Increased Financing for Water in Benin

As part of the Benin government’s programme to develop an IWRM plan, it tasked GWP with mobilising stakeholders to define a vision and roadmap for improving water resources management. The IWRM plan’s development was facilitated by GWP Benin, with support from GWP technical and financial partners.

Sensitised women on IWRM

GWP Bhutan under its Core activities conducted an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) sensitisation programme in Punakha Dzongkhag (District) for Instructors and Facilitators working at Non-formal Education (NFE) and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD).

Climate resilence through water

Partnering with the Green Climate Fund, the Adaptation Fund, Multilateral Development Banks and WMO, GWP supports countries accessing climate finance to implement water-informed National Adaptation Plans and integrated flood and drought management policies and measures.
