Biodiversity and Livelihoods in the Pungwe River basin under threat

The Pungwe River Basin originates in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe and flows through Mozambique into the Indian Ocean. About 5 % of the basin area is in Zimbabwe, with the remainder in Mozambique. However, about 28% of basin flows are generated on the Zimbabwean side. The basin is rich in plant and animal diversity, which is constantly under threat from anthropogenic activities.

GWP-C Provides Support to the Government of Grenada to Develop A National IWRM Communications Strategy and Implementation Plan

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) is supporting the Government of Grenada through the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Forestry, to develop a National Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Communications Strategy and Implementation Plan for Grenada. This will be a pivotal tool in raising awareness and promoting action on IWRM in the county. Furthermore, the Communications Strategy and Implementation Plan will be aligned to Grenada’s recently revised (2019) National Water Policy and IWRM Plan.

The countries of the world have jointly committed to achieve the SDGs through the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including the SDG #6 on water and sanitation, central to achieve the other SDGs, particularly related to agriculture, energy, disaster resilience, health, environment and ecosystems, economic growth, and SDG #16 on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
