The Global Water Partnership (GWP), represented by Mr. Alex Simalabwi, CEO of the Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO) and Executive Secretary of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), played a leading role at the AWSISA Africa & Global South Water & Sanitation Dialogue, held from 9–12 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.
The African SIDS Blue Economy Project, a joint initiative supported by the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP, and executed by the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, under the leadership of the African Union Commission as the focal custodian of the project, was showcased at the Africa Blue Economy Week taking place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Africa Blue Economy Week took place from 23 to 25 September 2025.

COP28 UAE (Nov 30 to Dec 12) will see the world take stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement with the objective of providing a comprehensive assessment of progress since its adoption. This will help recalibrate climate action efforts with needs in order to bridge the gaps in progress.
On May 20, 2025, GWP China played host to a thematic seminar titled "Integrated Water Resources Management and Green Development of Hydropower," convened by the 28th Congress of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) and the 93rd Annual Meeting, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
The fifth cohort meeting and the Progress Meeting of Bhutan of the Built Water Storage, South Asia project were held back-to-back from 27 to 30 August 2024 in Paro, Bhutan. The focuses of these gatherings were to present the Bhutan Cohort on the Policy and Institutional Study of Water Storage and Water Storage mapping on Bhutan and to provide hands-on experience for all the cohort members on the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies to map and assess water storage across diverse landscapes.
The “built water storage South Asia project” in-country consultation was held with the participation of Water Experts on 12 June 2024 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

GWP-Central Africa welcomes a new regional chair, marking a pivotal moment in its commitment towards promoting integrated water resource management within the region. The new chair and head of the regional steering committee, Herve Didas Amboulou, was sworn in during the 10th regional general assembly, which was held on December 9th in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
