Côte d’Ivoire, CWP takes part in two partners workshops in Abidjan

The national workshop on the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes was organized by the Ministry of Water and Forestry on April 15 to discuss the «Opportunities and Prospects for Côte d'Ivoire". The meeting was attended by representatives of the major embassies in Côte d'Ivoire, the Convention Secretariat, the Parliament, Ministries, Technical and Financial Partners, private companies and civil society.

Mali validates a water information system

The Joint Support Programme for Integrated Water Resources Management (PCA-Gire), financed by the Netherlands and Sweden in Mali is supporting the development of a water information system in Mali. The Ministry of Water and Energy, through the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH), organized, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, a validation workshop of the National Water Information System (Sineau). The workshop aims to identify and correct weaknesses and malfunctions affecting the system in order to make it operational and more efficient.

WHY GLOBAL WATER PARTNERSHIP?

Water is the interconnector of all sectors, therefore, it is not possible to support sectors development without understanding the role of water as one of the important development foundation. As important as it is, water is still considered as social goods by development actors. This condition has created a very complex challenge for the development of water sector itself. In Southeast Asia region as well as in other regions, the complexities of water challenges then urged the need to work together to achieve water secure world.

The Challenge: Inadequate country capacity to prepare GCF water projects

Related to the GCF, the workshop will focus on building capacity of, strengthening collaboration among, and sharing lessons across the GCF National Designated Authority (NDA), Direct Access Entities (DAEs) and potential DAEs, and water ministries or national water agencies within a country, and across country. Coordination among these national level mechanisms for successful preparation and participation in the workshop will serve as a useful example of similar cross-institutional coordination required to access other climate funds.

Background

In June 2017, the Government of the Republic of South Africa, under the aegis of the High Level Panel on Water (HLPW) commissioned the Global Water Partnership (GWP) to develop a legacy initiative of the HLPW in Africa. In response, the Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) was developed by GWP in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Development Programme Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) and the HLPW Secretariat at the World Bank/UN.
