GWP and Partners discuss water connections to NDCs in Bonn

Water is a key component of ensuring climate action. A GWP delegation was in Bonn, Germany, to convey this message and raise the profile of water at the UN climate talks, COP23, which took place 6-17 November. Rapid implementation to the Paris Agreement is paramount to battle climate change. Water is integral to build climate resilience and is therefore a crucial component of implementing the Paris Agreement. And GWP is well positioned to help countries deliver on the adaptation components of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The Project Preparation Platform was established in 2018 to provide a structured resource for African countries to access continued strategic and technical support in the prioritisation and preparation of climate resilient water projects for financing by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other climate funds.

China Hebei: Storage and use of rainwater (#352)

The Hebei province is experiencing severe water shortages resulting in serious environmental and socio-ecological problems. To combat these issues, the provincial government has encouraged rainwater utilisation for agriculture as well as improving soil and water conservancy and vegetation cover. The most important lesson is that rainwater is able to alleviate water shortage particularly in dry season or dry zones.
