A mixture of personal and professional characteristics led Maria Angelica to a career in Civil Hydraulic Engineering: “On the personal side, a strength of character combined with a dose of rebellion and of not accepting the status-quo just because it is what it is. Professionally, something that brings a sense of strength is talent combined with a great technical capacity and professional training. With these characteristics it is less complicated to position yourself as a woman leader because it also allows you to disrupt sexist and discriminatory biases in the water sector.” In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD2020), Maria Angelica shares her career story.

As we focus our attention on World Water Day 2015, we at the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) wish to draw attention to the underlying goal of securing water for all. 

The 16th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWP-SA Symposium was held on the island of Mauritius at Le Méridien Hotel from the 28 to 30 of October 2015 under the theme ‘Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Infrastructure Planning for Water Security in Southern Africa’. The University of Mauritius, a GWPSA partner was the lead host of the Symposium. The Symposia has been held annually in the Eastern and Southern African region for the past 15 years to promote interaction among policymakers, academics, practitioners from water and related sectors, and cooperating partners.  

Addis Ababa, 18th – 19th May 2016

The Country Water Partnership of Burkina is looking for a site for its Integrated Drought Management Project (IDMP) pilot demonstration action. On March 21, 2016, a meeting was held with the authorities and technical services of the municipality of Komki –ipala to discuss the modalities, strategy and project start-up timing. After discussions it was agreed that the CWP should meet the Village Chief and landowners to explain the content and expectations and get their commitment despite the initial introduction that was already done. This meeting was done on March 25 in collaboration with the IDMP project Manager at reginal level.

 

Youth are an integral partner in managing water issues – this was evidenced through the participation of over 30 youth that participated in the SADC Water Week held at the Maseru Sun Cabanas Hotel in Maseru, Lesotho from 21-23^rd April, 2015. The event proved that engagement of youth in water management issues makes it possible for the youth to understand their roles as possible stewards in water management affairs. Held under the theme “From Vision to Action”, the youth were able to make personal commitment to solutions practicing better water management.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) and its Partner, the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), would like to thank all participants in its #WorldWaterDay2019 Caribbean 1-Minute Video Challenge.

The cornerstone of GWP China is to be a knowledge sharing network. It was pioneered by GWP China Regional, Provincial and River Basin Partnerships and also fully supported by GWPO and the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognized professionals and scientists who are at the forefront of proposing actions that promote sustainable water resources management.

In the framework of the campaign ÔVI (eau=vie / water=life) in Tunisian primary schools to raise awareness on water scarcity and the importance of water saving among the Tunisian youth, the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med), along the Enivronmental Commission of the District 414 of Lions Clubs International Association, is organising a youth workshop to celebrate World Water Day 2016, on Saturday 19 March, at the Hotel le Sultan, in Hammamet, in the North of Tunisia.

The consultation is scheduled to be held from 13.30pm onwards on 15 November 2018 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMCH), Colombo.
