Strengthening Partnerships and National processes through the NCCRS Process

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP SA) has been supporting the development of a Climate Change Strategy and actions plans for water related sectors in the Zimbabwe National Climate Change Response Strategy (NCCRS) consultation process since its inception in August 22nd 2013. A number of stakeholders, such as COMESA, UNDP, and UNICEF have been supporting this process.

Integrated water resources management in Eastern Africa: Coping with ‘complex’ hydrology

Extreme and unpredictable rainfall patterns, intense floods and droughts add significantly to the cost of controlling and managing water resources in Eastern Africa. This paper describes the different approaches in IWRM being taken in selected countries in Eastern Africa to address their unique resource management challenges. Cameroon: Challenges in Kumbo community to improve water supply management (#364)

The Kumbo water supply system has always had contested ownership claims. After decades of protest, action was taken and management was transferred to Kumbo Urban Council, resulting in the establishment of an inclusive and participatory community water governance structure. From this, the lesson can be learnt that the command and control paradigm can provoke social and political instability. The case also demonstrates how community based platforms can enhance community mobilisation and participatory governance.

GWP China at World Water Week 2015

The Stockholm World Water Week 2015 will be taken place in Sweden throughout the week 23-28 August, 2015. This year marks a 25-year anniversary of the event, which is organised by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). The theme of the year is “Water and Development”.

Inaugural meeting on “Enhancing Transboundary Cooperation through Stakeholder Engagement in the Zambezi Basin”

The Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM) and its stakeholders have continued efforts to improve the management of the Zambezi River Basin. A recent activity was an inaugural stakeholder consultation in collaboration with government agencies, academia, other RBOs, and local representatives, which ZAMCOM organised in Windhoek, Namibia from 27-28 September, 2016. The consultation was held under the theme “Enhancing Transboundary Cooperation through Stakeholder Engagement in the Zambezi Basin”.

GWP Cameroon Tackles Economics of Climate Change Adaptation

GWP Cameroon held a training workshop in Kribi on 29 July to 2 August. The aim was to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to develop a balanced portfolio of investment options that enhance water security for climate resilient growth and development.
