GWP Eastern Africa occasionally produces policy papers on different thematic areas and programs, The Policy paper aims to communicate to our stakeholders about a series of activities geared towards a water secure and climate resilient region.

The MedPartnership and ClimVar projects held their final meeting on 3-4 November 2015 in Athens, Greece to showcase the results achieved through the activities and demonstration projects implemented over the past five years or so aiming to address the main environmental challenges that Mediterranean marine and coastal ecosystems face.

"Delivering Solutions"

The 3^rd workshop of the Capacity Building Programme “The Economics of Adaptation, Water Security and Climate Resilient Development” took place in the framework of the Water, Climate, Development Program for Africa (WACDEP), in Hammamet, Tunisia, on December 22-25, 2014. The Programme is composed of a series of five workshop trainings that are following the framework cycle developed under WACDEP for water security and climate resilience.

 

If left unattended, the twin engines of urbanisation and resource depletion will undermine efforts to achieve and sustain water security: water availability and access will be eroded and conflicts over use will escalate. Integrated Urban Water Management is a way to prevent that, which is explored in this paper. It is a Perspectives Paper, meant to incite a discussion on important issues related to water and development.

As part of GWP-C’s efforts to build greater awareness and understanding of IWRM in the region, it developed this regional case study to provide a detailed look into the IWRM process in Jamaica, highlighting the process of developing an IWRM plan and the challenges involved.

Climate change effects, including more extreme phenomena like droughts and floods, are likely to exacerbate the situation, both in the south and north of the Mediterranean. Adaptation measures require effective water resources management. Given that several climate-related aspects remain uncertain, ‘no-regret’ actions present a sustainable way for responding to challenges. Furthermore, aiming at adaptation-mitigation co-benefits through interlinking water, land, energy and environment interventions, could provide tangible solutions and promote innovation in the region.

GWP West Africa took part in the regional workshop to validate the sub regional report on the West African process of the 7^th World Water Forum on "Risk and uncertainty management for resilience and preparedness to disasters".
