The Pantanoso watershed in Montevideo has been identified as vulnerable to threats of intense rains and floods, posing risks to the human settlements. To combat the risks, action was taken by the local population and governmental authorities to engage in a project on Climate Related Disaster Risk Management. The key lesson is that strengthening vulnerable communities upon climate risks represents a key tool for the IWRM, since it contributes to empowering the population.
At the end of the Global Water Partnership’s (GWP) Consulting Partners meeting and the start of the Stockholm World Water Week, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the GWP and the European Water Partnership (EWP).
As capacity-building support to its Partner organisations, the Global Water Partnership (GWP) together with the University of Dundee will offer scholarships for 30 participants to undertake a module in International Water Law, in Dundee, June 11th - 29th, 2012.
GWP Central America organized a workshop for 25 municipal leaders and technical personnel of civil society that work on water issues. The event, which focused on risk management, took place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on February 23-27.
GWP Lithuania and GWP Poland successfully collaborated on a set of maps, a database and a video, to improve the management and protection of two transboundary rivers. The project brought together international experts from Lithuania, Poland, Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia.
The Ghana Country Water Partnership through WACDEP provided technical support to Water Resources Commission to hold a consultative meeting for stakeholders in the White Volta Basin, from 28th to 30th January 2015 at the Ex-Tee Crystal Hotel in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region. The aim of the meeting was to initiate the process to update the basin’s Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Plan after its preparation in 2008 to take into account the emerging issues in the basin, on the one hand, and to use the output as part of the input to the preparation of Investment Plan for the said basin, on the other hand.

In its efforts to continue building capacity for improved water management in the region, Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) together with its partner, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) hosted a workshop entitled ‘Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector’ on November 1st - 3rd, 2011 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Centre in St. Kitts.
