Three more GWP Technical Background Papers are now also available in Spanish. GWP’s library of publications written by the Technical Committee is growing, and there are currently 18 background papers. Many of them have been translated into several languages.

In a breakthrough for water, the 7th African Development Forum held in Addis Ababa in October put water on the infrastructure agenda alongside energy, transport and communications. This marked a turning point in overcoming resistance to large water projects stemming from negative perceptions of social and environmental impacts.

The Workshop on Climate Change, Food and Water Security in South-Asia was jointly held by GWP and IWMI in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 24-25 February 2011.

Despite its recent economic progress, Mozambique remains one of the lowest income countries in the world. Majority of the Mozambicans 80% live in rural areas where agriculture and livestock are of central importance to their livelihoods. 

As a global action network, GWP reaches out to a wide range of stakeholders in order to bring about changes to the way water resources are managed. Ideally, institutions join GWP as a Partner in order to enjoy the full range of benefits. It is possible that some institutions are not able to join. Nevertheless, GWP still wants to work in close partnership with as many institutions as possible that share our vision for a water secure world. To that end, we have Strategic Allies. GWP was founded in 1996 to foster integrated water resources management (IWRM), defined as a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
