Highlighting the Role of Water in Climate Change Adaptation
December 1st, 2010. Cancun, Mexico. This morning the Dialogs for Water and Climate Change were inaugurated in Cancun, Mexico, by a high panel of representatives, among them Dr. Letitia A. Obeng, Chair of GWP.
The UN climate negotiations in Cancún, Mexico, will be an opportunity to take a sober look at the state of the world’s climate and our collective capacity to respond to the changes which are already visible: more extreme weather events, floods, droughts, glacier melting, polar ice caps shrinking, and sea levels rising, GWP Executive Secretary Dr Ania Grobicki writes in a publication issued for the COP16 delegates (click on link at right).
Like many regions across the world, Central Asia is seeking ways of making the best use of limited water resources, and integrated water resources management (IWRM) is seen as the means of achieving this. A new Technical Focus Paper provides a critical review of progress made.
June 3 and 4, 2014, in Beijing, the Senior Network Officer Angela Klaeusen who was freshly nominated as the Network Officer of GWP China Region and GWP South Asia Region visited the Secretariat of the GWP China to conduct a two-day working meeting. This is her first time of visiting GWP China Secretariat.
The 5th Conference of the 2nd GWP China Council was held on June 6, 2014, in Beijing. Chaired by Mr. Wang Shucheng, Chair of GWP China, the conference convened twenty four council members, the staff of GWP China Region Secretariat and the representatives of GWP China Provincial/River Basin Water Partnerships to review the annual report of 2013 and work plan of 2014.

In a breakthrough for water, the 7th African Development Forum held in Addis Ababa in October put water on the infrastructure agenda alongside energy, transport and communications. This marked a turning point in overcoming resistance to large water projects stemming from negative perceptions of social and environmental impacts.
