The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which convened in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December, has now drawn to a close. It was a time for countries to recalibrate climate action, and as a leading authority on water governance, Global Water Partnership was active throughout.

Updates from the water change maker awards

The Water ChangeMaker Awards was launched during the World Water Week, 22nd March 2020. The submission of an application was opened from 6 April and last until 14 June 2020, after extend-ed for one week. The award aims to make visible the teams and organizations that shape water decisions that build climate resili-ence – and to create and support a community of ChangeMakers who contribute and learn from each other in shaping the lessons learned about how to make positive change happen. The initiative is designed to make sure that everybody will benefit from oppor-tunities to Connect, Collaborate, and to Celebrate.

Ninth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention

The 9th session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of Estonia. The event takes place on 29 September to 1 October, and will be in a hybrid format, in the Palais des Nations/Geneva and virtual. On the first day, GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril will be a panellist in a high-level special segment on the theme of “Water and Peace”. Side events connected to the MOP9 will be held on 27-28 September.
