Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper

AIP WACDEP-G launches in Cameroon to Promote a Gender-transformative approach to Water Security through Climate Resilient Water Investment

With the objective to transform gender inequalities, at scale by promoting gender-transformative planning, decision-making and institutional development for climate resilient water investments in Africa, the Cameroon Country Water Partnership (GWP-Cmr) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy (MINEE) held a multi-sectoral workshop in Yaoundé on February 24th 2021, to officially launch the Africa Water Investment Program, Water, Climate, Development-Gender (AIP-WACDEP G) in Cameroon.

An Action Plan for Water Management in Mali

GWP led the technical preparation of Mali’s Integrated Water Resources Management Plan and acted as an “honest broker” to lead national and local dialogue. The dialogue involved parliamentarians and representatives from the private sector who helped to identify water security priorities.

Integrated Approach Increased Funding for Water in Malawi

In Malawi, GWP provided long-term backing to the adoption of an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach to water management. This support included the development and implementation of a national IWRM and Water Efficiency (WE) plan to guide Malawi towards increased water security.

GWP Approved to Support Countries with GCF Readiness

During the UNFCCC COP25 climate change conference in Madrid, GWP received news that it had passed the “Financial Management Capacity Assessment” (FMCA) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This approval enables GWP to be a delivery partner of countries to access the GCF Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme (the Readiness Programme).

Implementing Water Sector Reform in The Gambia

GWP supported the development and implementation of a National Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Roadmap in The Gambia to guide the country towards increased water security. Validated in 2009, the implementation of the Roadmap has received approximately €2 million in funding from the African Development Bank and has led to the establishment of a Country Water Partnership.
