“I want to invite all of you today to focus on partnerships because of the importance of tackling the biggest challenge with water – whether it’s scarcity, floods, climate patterns – is working together,” says GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril in his message for World Water Day from Dakar, Senegal, where he is participating in the 9th World Water Forum.
The 5th edition of the Arab Water Forum is convened by the Arab Water Council on 21-23 September in Dubai, under the patronage of the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure and supported by the League of Arab States and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, in collaboration with national, regional and international partners.
A workshop “Gender dimensions in the sustainable management of natural resources through a Nexus approach in the Drina River Basin” was held online on June 23 2021. Approximately 80 stakeholders from Ministries, local NGOs, Nexus related institutions and agencies and academia from the Drina River Basin joined the workshop that focused on the interplay between sustainable management of natural resources and gender in the three countries of the region: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia.
The Government of Zanzibar has signed a bilateral agreement with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for EURO 660,000 as part of support to the Zanzibar Water Investment Programme.

Today marks the 2022 World Water Day celebration. The GWP CEE Water in the Circular Economy Taskforce prepared a report from Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia
On 25 March 2021, GWP-Med organised a training on the newly developed Drin Information Management System. It was attended by 17 representatives from related ministries, institutions, local governments, NGOs and international organizations active within the Drin basin.
On March 24, 2022, the National University of Public Service in Budapest, Hungary, conferred an honorary doctorate on Jerome Delli Priscoli, GWP’s Technical Committee Chair from 2016 to 2022.
Born in 1938, at age 84 Dr Motadullah is still fond of reminding the happy memories that he had with GWP as the first Executive Secretary and engaging in establishing Regional and Country Water Partnerships around the world during the inception of the network. Building robust and innovative financing and funding mechanisms for water security through an IWRM approach will enable sustainable and more resilient management of our precious water resources. More financing needs to be made available for IWRM approaches and implementation from a variety of sources, including the public and private sectors. How can countries better finance their water resources management?
