GWP-WA was one of the first institution to show its willingness to support the Mono Basin Authority (MBA) achieve its mandate of sustainably managing the natural resources of the basin by signing a MoU. Communities in the Mono Basin exposed to climate risks, including floods, need their means of adaptation and resilience to climate change to be strengthened through the implementation of the integrated water resources and flood management approach.
The GIZ, GWPSA, and Lesotho Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) Coordination Unit (CU) undertook a learning exchange mission in Zambia from 24th to 28th October 2022, to capture best practices and experiences in catchment protection and restoration in the country. The event series, “Transboundary freshwater security governance train” continued on 20 April. The initiative is a collaboration between GWP and Wuhan International Water Law Academy, and the topic of the 4th session was “International Water Law and Climate Change.” Around 120 participants joined the online session. “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges in international water law,” said event Co-Chair Barbara Janusz-Pawletta.
The SDG 6.5.1 monitoring process started in the region where UNEP-DHI through GWP is bringing financial and technical assistance to 7 countries out the 15 ECOWAS member states to facilitate the data collection and reporting process.

During the last months the Executive Secretariat coordinated the field missions carried out by the consultants of the AGRISTUDIO/ID SAHEL consortium in 4 Fouta Djalon countries from November 16 to December 04, 2021. The consultants’ firm had submitted their start-up report of the mission on the realization of a prospective diagnosis of the Fouta Djallon massif with the analysis of the opportunities and the proposal of the options/priorities of restoration of the degraded ecosystems of the Massif. This report was validated after some amendments by GWP-WA.
The AIP SDG Investments support programme assists countries to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 of clean water and sanitation for all, while contributing to the achievement of water-related SDG targets in health, energy, food, and ecosystems and boosting job creation interventions.
