Strengthening private sector participation in the SDG6 IWRM agenda as a tangible resource base.

As part of the Benin government’s programme to develop an IWRM plan, it tasked GWP with mobilising stakeholders to define a vision and roadmap for improving water resources management. The IWRM plan’s development was facilitated by GWP Benin, with support from GWP technical and financial partners. 

About 30 representatives from the Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Monitoring and Evaluation (PPBS) chain of government ministries working in the water-environment and climate sector have been trained by GWP-Cameroon experts on the Gender Transformative Approach to enable them better consider gender in the elaboration, implementation, and monitoring of national laws, programs, and budget.

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security has entered its second year, and coinciding with this, the interactive series of sessions that explore related topics resumed on 21 September. Over 100 participants joined the event on the topic of international water law and dispute settlement. The speaker presentations highlighted the complex and long-running nature of international water disputes.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) will host its 2nd virtual Caribbean Science Symposium on Water (CSSW) on March 21st and 22nd, 2023.

Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia and its partners in Indonesia successfully formulated a position paper on the inclusion of community-based water and sanitation program for the Water Resources Law Draft of the Republic of Indonesia. The paper was presented and accepted by the Parliament after series of meetings and workshop co-organized by GWP-SEA together with Unicef Indonesia, Center for Regulation Policy and Governance (CRPG), and Jejaring AMPL (Indonesia’s Water and Sanitation Networks). The discussions that were held on September 2018 involved civil societies, non-governmental organizations, government representatives, academics, related partners, and mass media.

The 90-minutes series, a series of regular interactive Q&A sessions with prominent diplomats and transboundary water cooperation experts commenced in 2021 from the Initiative on Empowering Women in Water Diplomacy in the MENA region.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is convening its working group on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and working group on Monitoring and Assessment under the Water Convention in a meeting on 26-28 April.
